Looking for a TutorCruncher alternative?

TutorCruncher has been at this since 2014 and is good at it: Tutoring agencies — companies matching contract tutors to clients, with CRM, invoicing and contractor payments. Halgo competes on a different axis — tutor management software that also builds each student’s homework from your own textbooks, the one job no admin tool touches.

Halgo is in closed beta — invite only, free while the beta lasts. There is no self-serve signup yet.

What TutorCruncher does well

  • The agency model done properly: client CRM, contractor management, automated invoicing and payment collection, white-labelling. If you broker tutors, this is the category leader's feature set.
  • Payment processing is built into the product rather than bolted on.

Where Halgo is different

  • TutorCruncher is software for the company that sells tutoring. Halgo is software for the person who teaches — the agency's admin never opens a textbook, and the tutor's whole prep evening happens outside tools like this. Halgo lives exactly there: homework from your own books, per student.
  • Halgo takes no percentage of anything. TutorCruncher's cost scales with your revenue through payment fees — reasonable for an agency, worth noticing as a solo tutor.
  • Halgo takes a GDPR-first stance enforced in code: it minimises personal data sent to AI providers, contacts a family only where the tutor enabled that contact, and shows which records an erasure will delete, anonymise or retain before confirmation. Its infrastructure is not pinned to one region, and some processing can happen outside the EEA.

And the honest gaps, so you do not discover them later: Halgo has no native mobile apps (the web app works on phones and tablets); no SMS reminders; no invoicing PDFs or a website builder; no multi-branch management; no lesson transcription or lesson-memory feature enabled for beta tutors yet.

Stay with TutorCruncher if

  • You run an agency: contract tutors, client billing, commission. That is TutorCruncher's home ground and not Halgo's.
  • You want payments collected inside the product.
  • You need white-labelling.

Questions tutors ask

Is Halgo an alternative to TutorCruncher for agencies?

Mostly no, and it would be dishonest to claim otherwise. TutorCruncher is built for agencies — CRM, contractor payouts, client invoicing — and Halgo has none of that. Halgo is the alternative when the person choosing the software is the person doing the teaching.

Why would a tutor pick Halgo over TutorCruncher?

Because the hard part of tutoring is not admin, it is the nightly hour of building each student's homework. Halgo generates it from your own textbooks, tracks prepaid packages and payments, and syncs your calendar — without taking a percentage of your payments.

What does TutorCruncher cost?

From $30/month plus 3.85% card fees on Pay as you go, to $240/month on Enterprise (August 2026, their US pricing page). Halgo is free during its closed beta.
